Diabetes is a condition where the body can't produce insulin (or enough of it) required to regulate glucose levels in the blood.
There are two main types of diabetes:-
Type 1 Diabetes usually starts in young children.
Type 2 Diabetes usually develops in older people.
An insulin pump can be used as a method to regulate the amount of glucose in the blood. The pump is roughly the size of a smartphone and is attached to the body through an infusion set that consists of plastic tubing and a cannula. The cannula is usually round and has a needle that facilitates infusing insulin into the body.
A continuous glucose monitor (CGM) is a device that attaches to the body to monitor blood sugar levels. A CGM may be a standalone device that transmits readings to a Smartphone or may also be used in conjunction with an insulin pump.
The Insulin Pump and CGM set is available now and is provided free for Smart Doll owners who rely on an insulin pump. Smart Doll owners who care for patients or family members that use an insulin pump are also eligible. You can also get one for free if you have diabetes who doesn't use an insulin pump - but would still like one for your Smart Doll.
Many Smart Doll owners have been telling us their diabetes story, and I have already sent a few of these out with their orders. If you are eligible, leave a note in your next order telling us your diabetes story - no need to add this product to your cart - we will put one in for free. If it is your first time ordering a Smart Doll then you are still eligible.
The Insulin Pump and CGM Set may be packaged with the 3D print supports still attached. By helping us to remove them yourself, we can continue to provide this item for free to those who need it.
The supports can be easily removed by hand but any remaining pieces are better removed using nippers. Please wear protective eyewear when removing the supports - also ask anybody in the vicinity to wear protective eyewear too.
Designed by @alan.tecua on Instagram, The CGM and cannula is attached to the body using blu-tac. Enough blu-tac is included with the set. Be careful when you are out n about, as they could fall off if you bump them against something.
I have not noticed any markings on the torso after leaving the CGM or cannula attached, but there is a possibility of oil seeping out from the blu-tac if left on the body for prolonged periods.
Remember that while the Insulin Pump and CGM set is available for purchase, you do not need to buy this item if you are eligible. Please do not feel the need to pay for it if you are eligible - let us give it to you for free ;-) I do ask forgiveness that this offer is only applicable to new or existing Smart Doll owners.
Spock once said "Logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."
While Spock may have been right given the situation in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, I also feel the needs of the few should be made known to the many. For this reason, I will continue to use Smart Doll as a platform to convey such needs.
Other Medical Supplies include ostomy bags and prosthetic legs.
