First revealed on Instagram in Jan 2020, we have been developing this body suit for Smart Doll since Jan 2019 and it’s now finally ready for prime time.
Made in Kyushu Japan, the body suit (some people call these bodysuit, body glove, body stocking, body snatcher etc) can be used for various applications such as a stain prevention measure, hide joints (what you don’t like dem delicious ball joints?), Cortex cover (what you don’t like dem delicious seams?) - and it also helps in reducing chances of scuffing for both vinyl but Cortex in particular. You can also tie it to the end of a pole and wave it around in public to see what happens - but don't do it with the bust cover as it looks indecent when hung upside down.
There are 4 pieces to this set - Lower Body, Bust, Left Arm, Right Arm.
I wanted the body suit to be as discreet and body hugging as possible which meant that we had to make the arms, bust and torso/legs into separate pieces and put elastic on the end of each part to pull the cover tight.
As the pieces are separate - you have the choice of using just the arms / just the torso / just the bust depending on your apparel setup - do note that we sell this as a set - not in separate pieces.
The suit is designed to cover the S bust - you can use it on the slightly bigger Medium Smooth but kinda defeats the purpose as it will cover up the cleavage.
We work with a manufacturer that dyes human stocking fabrics and made sure in our tests that they won’t stain the body of the doll. The suit won’t however prevent discoloration of the body through oxidization, exposure to UV light, humidity, biological chemicals (not a good idea to do heavy breathing near a Smart Doll) and or air pollution.
As the body suit is made from a completely different material to the Smart Doll body - don’t expect an exact color match with an exact matte look and feel. Do note that if you take photos too close that (surprise surprise) your Smart Doll may look like a fabric doll. The color of the suits look dark until your Smart Doll wears them as we had to calculate the amount of stretch when worn which makes the fabric appear lighter to match the skin tone closer - for example the milk suit looks like cinnamon until you wear it on the body.
While the parts have elastic to pull the suit tight, depending on how you wear it you may still have wrinkles here and there - some of which can be removed by pulling or tugging on the parts.
Depending on lighting conditions the suit may look greatly different in terms of color when compared to the body skin tone - this may be especially noticeable when looking at the difference between the face and neck.
Apparel items can be worn on top of body suit but the fabric of both the suit and the apparel item will tug against each other - be patient while dressing your Smart Doll and don't flip tables.
Do be careful when using the suit to cover the arms as it may be difficult to see which way the elbow bends. If you bend the arm the wrong way then you will notice tears flowing from the Smart Doll eyes in which case you should drop everything (but put the Smart Doll down on the ground gently) and run like the wind.
Things some folks may not like are...
- Not exact color or material match with body. Under certain lighting conditions folks may feel that it looks completely different (night and day).
- Looks like fabric.
- If not worn properly then can look very wrinkled. If you pull in certain areas they can bunch up and...look quite bad.
- Is folded when packed.
- May have creases straight out of the bag.
- Will stretch after being worn.
- Won't last forever.
- Is designed to be worn over the feet with toes showing. If you remove feet before wearing then the legs fabric will be too long and bunch up towards the crotch looking all wrinkled - and a wrinkly crotch is not something to brag about.
- It can be a struggle to wear pants on top of the leggings if you are unable to straighten out the wrinkles.
- Won't fit other brand of dolls.
- Body may still stain if the item being worn on top of body suit is evil (designed to stain).
- Body arms and bust need to be taken off to use the body suit.
- Costs much more than other brands.
- There is a hole in the back for the stand.
- Given the amount of things that certain folks may not like about this product, I thoroughly do not recommend this product - to these certain folks ;-)
While I have not experienced the following, its best to set expectations that this is a wear and tear item that may stretch or discolor due to oxidization or other environmental factors. Jeans are known to make leggings turn yellow after a while. If you are looking for a bullet proof ironman suit that lasts forever (or until Thanos does a clickety click) then seek other products.
Made from 82% polyester, 18% polyurethane. Finally I would like to reiterate - do not expect an exact match of color with the body skin tone. In certain lighting conditions the color may seem vastly different from the skin tone of the doll. Even if the body suits are labeled as "cinnamon" "milk" "cocoa" "tea" - we are not advertising that they will match the skin tone of the body at all. If red flags are raising in your mind then its best to avoid this product. Smart Doll body or walls or furniture or human hand in photos not included.
One of the main reasons this product was designed was because of Cortex but that project didn't go as expected so I'm not sure if we will do another run of this item - if you want it get it now.
