The story behind the name "Genesis" harkens back to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, even though my personal favorite remains Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
In essence, Genesis signifies the origin or the formation of something. This was apt for our Smart Doll Genesis, who marked the inception of our semi-real line of characters, a departure from our long-standing tradition of anime-style designs.
The introduction of our semi-real line was met with significant resistance from many (not all) of our anime-style fans, a sentiment that still persists today.
This experience was a déjà vu of sorts, reminding me of the initial resistance I faced when developing Smart Doll. The industry consensus back then was that the vinyl doll market was saturated and that there was no room for Smart Doll. Every aspect of Smart Doll was met with scoffs and ridicule.
However, this is a universal experience. Be it in a large organization proposing an innovative idea or as an entrepreneur, you're bound to face pushback. Your response to this resistance, though, can drastically shape the outcome.
Energy is the universal currency, the lifeblood of existence. Just as the sun gives life but also possesses the power to extinguish it, pushback has the potential to make or break you.
In the same way a plant harnesses energy from the sun for photosynthesis, converting carbon dioxide and water into life-sustaining energy, you can leverage pushback as a motivation, especially during challenging times.
Those resisting your ideas expect you to give up. Do you let them rejoice at your surrender? Or do you thank them for providing the fuel that fires your perseverance and crystallizes your ideas?
Genesis symbolizes the idea that you can channel the energy from pushback to trigger a fresh start, one that can potentially alter everything. And when you do, your laughter – the laughter of triumph – will indeed be the longest-lasting ;-)
